144 The Golden Triangle

144 The Golden Triangle

We just seem to get it both ways. Receiving too much water on not receiving enough each bring their benefits and difficulties. This year’s 153% snow pack and the accompanied big gulp that has filled up reservoirs across California is a good thing. But seeing that the atmospheric storms are likely to continue into March brings pause. I wonder how much of a good thing this really is? Today, we visit with Dr. Laurie Johnson. Her message includes the low probability, atmospheric river 1000 storm scenario that poses some very introspective questions on scenario planning that affect the entire state. What is the golden triangle and how does this describe flood recovery? Are we ready?

69 WWII Life in the Navy

69 WWII Life in the Navy

On this day, we honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Private Second Class, John Baker, served in the Navy during World War II and was sent to Japanese waters of the South Pacific. Water for a Navy man is both good and shocking. Pacific Ocean storms, 150 battles, kamikaze  suicide bombers, and the most spectacular views on the water. Water played an important part in lives saved and lives lost. I salute our military soldiers that lost their lives and the veterans that live today across our country. We thank you and know that your efforts have made a difference that you can be proud of today. Listen up. Water is a Many Splendor’ed Thing brings you another water relationship that has a personally significant impact to your life.

198 Yellowstone

198 Yellowstone

Things happen all the time at Yellowstone. That is why there is always something different to experience when visiting this part of Wyoming. It’s the water that plays a critical part in the beauty and life that is so abundant in the northwestern part of Wyoming. Yellowstone is built on top of a really big volcano where the magma is near the surface of the earth’s crust.  Thermo features, the rivers, the falls, the great fly fishing each benefit by underlying geothermal conditions and the hydrology of the area.  The benefits of water go even further than that.  Elk herds, pronghorn, big horn sheep, mountain lions and the last free ranging bison are witnessed everyday living their life on the rugged landscape. Water is truly fundamental to this environment.

So now that it is summer, it is time to schedule a trip to that heaven on earth that we call Yellowstone and experience firsthand the value of water. Water is a Many Splendor’ed Thing brings you another water relationship that has a personally significant impact to your life.

106 Antarctica

106 Antarctica

Air temperature is changing in the Antarctica and this is causing disruption of the food chain of land and ocean-based ecosystems. Melting from the top of the glaciers and melting from the bottom add significant fresh water to the surrounding ocean. Everything readjusts because water’s presence in the Antarctica has changed in form and distribution. How is this going to play out for those of us living at lower latitudes? Water is a Many Splendor’ed Thing brings you another water relationship that has a personally significant impact to your life.

126 A City's Life Line

126 A City's Life Line

Many a time, cities are built where the rivers flow. The rivers are fundamental to many daily functions including water resources, industry and commerce. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is a perfect example of this.  Don and Jason, U.S. Corp of Engineers, reinforce the importance for all of us to focus on maintaining and being a good steward for our rivers. When rivers are healthy, communities thrive. Water is a Many Splendor’ed Thing brings you another water relationship that has a personally significant impact to your life.

Water is Really, Really Good

Water is Really, Really Good

111 Food, Water and Our Habitat

111 Food, Water and Our Habitat

Balancing the California Delta ecosystem and our food supply becomes most difficult when there is not much water to go around. Water deliveries become problematic because there are many water relationships that must be satisfied. Food, water and habitat are three needs that every relationship must consider. We find society’s strength is challenged by changes in agricultural successes causing a domino effect of change in our society.  Everyone wants it all but water is a finite resource that changes in its availability and sometimes quality each year. Water is a Many Splendor’ed Thing brings you another water relationship that has a personally significant impact to your life.
